Junior Bike Camp  (Ages 10-12)

Junior Bike Camp Ages 9-12

Try exciting new terrain, improve skills and technique in our Junior Bike Camp. Your child will develop their technique with guided instruction from our skilled instructors, all while exploring our skills park and roaming our network of trails along with fellow riders who are just as excited to explore.

Equipment Required

  • Front and rear disk brakes
  • Gears
  • Front suspension
  • Certified approved helmet
  • Advanced kids – preferred full face and shin pads as they will be doing more technical terrain.
  • Proper shoes – no sandals, crocs or boots, must be a proper running/bike shoe.

Beginner (Level 1)

  • Can pedal and stay balanced on bumpy or grassy terrain.
  • Safe use of brakes on and off pathways.

Key Goals for camp

  • Can pedal and stay balanced on Green (beginner) terrain.
  • Can sometimes stand up off the seat while riding over bumpy terrain.
  • Can comfortably stop, steer and change direction.
  • Introduced to using gears.

Intermediate (Level 2)

  • Can ride on pathways and gentle terrain
  • Use brakes to stop on Green (beginner) terrain.
  • Introduced to using gears.
  • Can pedal and stay balanced while standing up off the seat on Green (beginner) terrain.

Key Goals for camp

  • Safe use of front and back brakes on Green and gentle Blue (Intermediate) terrain while staying in control.
  • Can shift gears correctly to different terrain more easily .
  • Can choose the appropriate line to move around obstacles on the trail.

Intermediate Plus (Level 3)

  • Safe use of front and back brakes on Green and gentle Blue (intermediate) terrain while staying in control.
  • Understands the difference between high or low gear.
  • Can shift gears correctly to different terrain more easily.
  • Can choose the appropriate line to move around obstacles on the trail.

Key Goals for camp

  • Can pedal and stay balanced while standing up off the seat on Blue (intermediate) terrain.
  • Can show proper body positioning while riding Blue terrain.
  • Safe use of front and back brakes on Blue terrain while staying in control.
  • Can shift gears correctly to different terrain more easily while maintaining speed and control.
  • Can maneuver around small obstacles (sticks, rocks, puddles) on Green or Blue terrain.

Advanced (Level 4)

  • Can pedal and stay balanced while standing up off the seat on Blue (intermediate) terrain.
  • Can show proper body positioning while riding Blue terrain.
  • Safe use of front and back brakes on blue terrain while staying in control.
  • Can shift gears correctly while on Blue terrain while maintaining speed and control.
  • Can maneuver around small obstacles (sticks, rocks, puddles) on Green or Blue terrain.

Key Goals for camp

  • Can use correct body positioning on technical Blue (intermediate) terrain
  • Safe use of both brakes on technical Blue terrain to maintain traction.
  • Correct timing when using brakes to maintain speed and control.
  • Shift gears preemptively through terrain to maintain a proper cadence.
  • Can ‘ghost shift’ to transition between gears efficiently.
  • Can ride over small obstacles (sticks, rocks, etc.) with correct body position.
  • Scan the trail and choose the appropriate line in a corner or on a technical Blue trail.
  • Introduction to Maneuvers like Front Wheel Lifts, Rear Wheel Lifts and Bunny Hops.

Advanced Plus (Level 5)

  • Can use correct uphill or downhill position on most Blue (intermediate) terrain
  • Can adjust use of brakes to maintain traction and stay in control.
  • Shifting gears through changing terrain to maintain a proper cadence.
  • Can ride over small obstacles (sticks, rocks, etc.) with correct body position.
  • Can show proper technique over a small jump.
  • Scan the trail and choose the appropriate line on a Blue trail.
  • Introduced to Maneuvers like Front Wheel Lifts, Rear Wheel Lifts and Bunny Hops.

Key Goals for camp

  • Use correct body positioning on technical Blue and easier Black terrain
  • Efficient use of both brakes on technical blue terrain to maintain traction and control.
  • Correct timing when using brakes to maintain speed and control.
  • Using rotation to help steer through corners.
  • Consistently shift gears through changing terrain to maintain a proper cadence, and has been introduced to “Ghost Shifting”.
  • Ride natural features with correct stance.
  • Scan the trail and choose the appropriate line while riding on a technical Blue trail.
  • Confidently demonstrate Maneuvers like Front Wheel Lifts, Rear Wheel Lifts and Bunny Hops.
  • Proper body positioning over small jumps.
